Knit Wits
If you knit, crochet, quilt or sew, or would like to learn a craft – you can use your talents for outreach. We are a group of crafters that like to make items for people in need. These include items as easy to do as making seven-by-nine inch knit or crocheted rectangles to make into an afghan – only 49 rectangles make an afghan for an adult, 25 rectangles for a lap-robe or an infant’s blanket.
There are simple patterns to make hats for infants and toddlers who would otherwise not have a warm head covering. There are many hat patterns for children and adults who are undergoing chemotherapy. Prayer shawl ministry is another way to help those who need our prayers and comfort.
The Knit Wits have sent about 650 100% wool troop caps to soldiers deployed from local areas to war zones. We have also distributed countless caps, mittens, scarves, blankets and stuffed toys to Glen's Falls Hospital, Open Door Ministry, North Country Ministry, the local schools, and prayer shawls for victims of domestic violence.
The Knit Wits meet year round on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 at the Parish Hall in St. James' Church.
If you would like to join us, please drop in. If you do not wish to knit, you can socialize with us, or we can give you beginner lessons. All are welcome!
